Blue Hens Debut Spring Season With Big Weekend at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Most coaches talk about the process of a season and how each week is a build up to the end goal.Â
Â
Well, the initial building block for spring season for the University of Delaware track & field program was a big one as the Blue Hens piled up 28 top-three finishes and 11 victories at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday.

"I was pleased with our first spring meet. Our girls came out ready to compete and we had good performances throughout the day," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said. "I'm excited to continue to work with them this spring."

Khamoy Farquharson (100m), Halima Scott (200m), Carly Pettipaw (400m), Sydni Stovall (800m), Michaela Meyer (1500m), Olivia Goncerz (100m hurdles), Taliah Cintron (400m hurdles), 4x100 relay, Myrissa McFolling-Young (discus) and Niyah Cosme (javelin) all picked up victories on the day for the Blue Hens.Â

Cintron's time of 1:02.67 in the 400m hurdles was a top-five time in program history, along with the top time in the CAA in the opening week. Farquharson and teammate Isis Pinkneywent 1-2 in the 100m, both clocking in with the second and third fastest time among CAA teams in the opening weekend.Â

Cosme's throw of 135'2" ranked her sixth all-time, while Halimah Roberson (38' 2") and Ruby Mullen (37' 2 ÂĽ"), who both finished in the top-three in the triple jump, earned top-10 marks in school history.Â

Delaware is back in action next weekend (March 22-23) when it heads to the Winthrop Invitational in South Carolina.Â
