RICHMOND, Va. – Tye Kurtz made quite an impression in his first conference game of his collegiate career.
Kurtz set a CAA record for points in a game with 10 in Delaware's 15-7 road win over Fairfield this past Saturday. His seven goals and three assists helped the Blue Hens improve to 8-2, the best start for the program since 2006.
For his efforts, he was named the CAA Player and Rookie of the Week. He is the first player since April 28, 2014 to take home both awards in the same week.
"I thought Tye did a great job of being opportunistic on Saturday. He did a great job with his ground ball and we really moved the ball unselfishly and he was able to take advantage of it," head coach Ben DeLuca said.
He is the first player in CAA history to reach 10 points in a league game and the first to reach it in any game since 2013. The marks are the highest by any Blue Hen since Curtis Dickson scored eight and had 10 points against Albany in 2010. On top of the offense, Kurtz added five ground balls on the day.
The Punslich, Ontario native ranks second on the team with 24 goals and is tied for the team lead with 39 points. He currently ranks in the top-20 nationally with a .471 shooting percentage. He ranks fourth among freshman nationally in points and goals.
Kurtz and his teammates hit the road once again this Saturday for another critical CAA matchup when they travel to Philadelphia to battle the Dragons of Drexel. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
