RICHMOND, Va. – The Blue Hens men's tennis team continues to rise to prominence and freshman Luis Molina proved just that Thursday as he captured Delaware's first-ever major award from the Colonial Athletic Association in being named this season's Rookie of the Year.
Molina led the Blue Hens with 19 singles wins, which ties the school record for wins by a freshman and is good for eighth all-time. Competing mostly at the No. 2 position, Molina reeled off 10 victories in a 12-match stretch this spring. In conference play, he posted a 2-1 record with wins over Hofstra and James Madison.
The Cochabama, Bolivia native also guided Delaware with 20 doubles victories, including a 12-4 mark in top-flight action. Molina's 20 doubles wins ties for fourth in single-season history and is the most-ever for a Blue Hens rookie.
