NEWARK, Del. – The 2019 field hockey season will be a test for the Blue Hens, as they will take on eight NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago as announced Monday by the University of Delaware.
The Hens kick off the year with four contests at Fred P. Rullo Stadium and in total will play nine regular season games on their home turf. During opening weekend play, Delaware will host NCAA Tournament participants Albany (Friday, August 30) and Miami (Monday, September 2). The Great Danes ranked No. 17 in the final NFHCA Coaches poll while the RedHawks were No. 24.
UD returns three All-Colonial Athletic Association performers in Lotte de Koning (CAA Player of the Year), Emily Kresho and Sydney Rhodes from a 2018 squad that went 13-7 overall and 6-0 in conference action. The Blue Hens were denied their sixth straight conference tournament title last season as No. 14 Delaware fell in an overtime heartbreaker to William & Mary in the CAA Championship.
