Blue Hen Baseball Summer Ball Update

A number of Delaware products are using the summer to sharpen their skills across the country
NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware baseball program has a number of its student-athletes competing in some of the top collegiate summer leagues across the country.

Reigning CAA Rooking of the Year Joseph Carpenter is leading the Perfect Game League in RBIs with 32 while carrying a .310 batting average with the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. He has slugged six home runs with eight doubles and a pair of triples to become an all-star. On June 25, he had a 3-for-4 day at the dish with four RBIs and a home run to help lead his team to a 12-1 triumph. The DiamondDawgs have clinched a playoff berth and sit in second place of the East Division.

Rising junior Winston Allen has pitched 20.1 innings in the Northwoods League with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and has compiled 15 strikeouts. On June 17 he tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts and on June 2, Allen worked 2.0 scoreless where he surrendered just one hit with four punchouts. Allen's Rapids Rafters stand atop the Great Lakes West Division.

Another member of the Northwoods League with the Kokomo Jackrabbits is rising junior Joey Haass. He is carrying a 1.58 ERA in 20 appearances where he has thrown 22.2 innings with 26 strikeouts. His six saves on the summer rank tied for sixth in the 22-team league. Thirteen of Haass' appearances have been scoreless and he struck out the side on July 3 in his unblemished inning of relief.

Another Blue Hen that was awarded with an all-star selection this summer is rising junior John Marti in the Hamptons League. His .358 batting average with the Long Island Road Warriors ranks third in the league. He has seven doubles and 12 RBIs through 36 games.
