RICHMOND, Va. – After 180 minutes of shutout soccer, the Colonial Athletic Association named Delaware sophomore goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein its women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week Monday morning.
Stablein played every minute between the posts as the Blue Hens picked up a pair of 2-0 wins over Lehigh and Lafayette on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, respectively. The Orwigsburg, Penn., native needed to make just one save to preserve the clean sheet against the Mountain Hawks Friday, as the Delaware back line turned in a dominant performance.
The real test came Sunday when an 11th-minute red card forced the Blue Hens to play down a man for the rest of the game. Stablein made nine saves, one shy of her career high, including several stops from point blank range. Her stellar play in net guided the Blue Hens to their first back-to-back shutouts to open a season since 2009.
This is the first weekly honor of Stablein's career. The Blue Hens have won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honors, dating back to Olivia Schuck's award from the last week of the 2018 season.
Delaware plays its first two home matches of the season this weekend, hosting Stony Brook at Grant Stadium on Friday night at 7 p.m., and Richmond on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
