Women's Soccer Sallee Receives CUSA Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship

NEWARK, Del. - Forward Leilah Sallee from the University of Delaware women's soccer was named a recipient of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship, as announced by Conference USA on Friday.
Sallee, a senior who graduated from Delaware last May, majored in cognitive science/pre professional speech language pathology with a cumulative GPA of 3.34. She was admitted into Delaware's Speech Language Pathology Master's program and will start in the fall, where she plans to pursue a career in helping others as she was helped in her childhood following a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. On the field, Sallee appeared in 53 games, made nine starts and logged over 1800 minutes of game action on the field. She is the first Fightin' Blue Hen to receive the scholarship as a member of CUSA.
Conference USA honored the 10 accomplished recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship on Friday. This marks the 18th year the award has been named after Dr. Jim Castañeda, who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed in 2008. Every season, CUSA grants a $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Conference USA Board of Directors.
