The 1990 Delaware field hockey team went undefeated against conference opponents on its way to the East Coast Conference championship, the Blue Hens' fourth ECC title in nine years.
Under second-year head coach MaryBeth Holder, Delaware compiled an 11-5-3 overall record with a 4-0 mark in ECC play. Sophomore forward Kelly Hollinger led the Blue Hens with nine goals in 1990, while junior forward Joanne Dobson tallied a team-high five assists. Senior Leslie Saylor played every minute in goal for the Blue Hens, compiling a 1.15 goals-against average and a .878 save percentage, and recording nine shutouts. Seniors Christa Iaccio and Jill Hershey served as team captains.
Delaware started the year with a three-game win streak. The Blue Hens beat La Salle 2-1 before a Dobson goal with a minute left in double overtime lifted Delaware past Ursinus 3-2. Delaware opened conference play with a 5-0 thrashing of Hostra at home on Sept. 15, with five different Blue Hens finding the back of the net.
After a three-game winless streak, capped by a scoreless tie with Maryland, Delaware closed out September with a 1-0 win over Princeton behind a game-winning goal from Hollinger. Hershey's game-winning goal against Towson on Oct. 4 moved Delaware to 2-0 in ECC play before a 2-1 overtime win over Penn two days later.
The Blue Hens closed out non-conference play with a 3-2 win over Lehigh and a 0-0 tie with Bucknell. On Oct. 23, two goals from Hollinger pushed Delaware past Drexel 2-1, then two days later junior forward Meghan Mulqueen scored the lone goal as the Blue Hens finished the regular season with a 1-0 win over Rider.
Delaware won two games in two days during the first weekend in November to claim the ECC crown, first defeating Towson 1-0 behind a goal from senior forward Pam Irvine, then beating Rider 3-0 with goals from Hollinger, Mulqueen and Jennifer Daggert.
Hershey (1st) and Hollinger (2nd) earned spots on CFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region teams, while Holder was named ECC Co-Coach of the Year and Hershey was named ECC Most Valuable Player.
