RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware junior guard Nate Darling, who continued his outstanding play during the Blue Hens' home wins over Towson and James Madison, was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
Darling, who shared the award with Elon's Marcus Sheffield II, averaged 30.5 points during the week and led UD in scoring both games. He finished 16 of 31 from the floor, including 11 of 22 from three-point range, and hit 19 of his 20 free throw attempts.
Darling scored 34 points, including seven triples, in Thursday's 84-78 victory over Towson, and buried nine of 10 free throws in the final 55 seconds to help hold off the Tigers. He added a game-best 27 points during the 80-78 triumph over JMU on Saturday, and hit the game-winning bucket with five seconds remaining.
Darling, who has scored 122 points over the last four games, ranks third in the CAA and 16th in the nation by averaging 20.9 points per game. His 79 three-pointers lead the league, rank ninth in Division I, and are seven shy of the UD single season record.
Darling, who earned his third CAA Player of the Week honor and his second in three weeks, returns to the court Thursday when the Blue Hens head to Elon for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Phoenix.
