"A Coach's Dream": Solderitch Sets The Standard On and Off the Diamond

The grind never stops.Â
Â
Julia Solderitch, a senior outfielder on the Delaware softball team, is a real-life example.Â
Â
The University of Delaware possesses the top-ranked Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in the nation. It is quite an honor to be accepted into the program, but an even bigger accomplishment to be accepted early decision.Â
Â
Solderitch knew it would be no easy feat to watch her dream come true, but that just pushed her to work harder.
Â
"I think being a student- athlete has helped me learn that you have to try your hardest in order to get what you want. It also taught me how to use my time effectively and it taught me how to work well with others and build relationships," said Solderitch.Â
Â
Putting the "student" in student-athlete is a struggle, especially being on the road for most of the semester to travel to warmer states for competitions.Â
Â
Her hard work did not go unnoticed as she earned CAA Commissioner Honor Roll and Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honors in each of her first three seasons with the Blue Hens.Â
Â
"Julia is a coach's dream. She works hard every day, takes feedback, and puts the team's goals and needs first. She is selfless in her commitment to our program and has always embraced her role on the team," said Blue Hen head coach, Jen Steele.Â
Â
Growing up surrounded by sports, Solderitch developed an early passion for athletics and exercise which led her to the health field.Â
Â
"I chose physical therapy because I witnessed my own family members go through it and progressively get better by going to physical therapy, and I thought that I would like to help others in the same way one day." said Solderitch.Â
Â
She glowed as she talked about patients who inspired her by their determination to find ways to overcome their physical limitations during her time volunteering in physical therapy clinics.Â
Â
Currently, Solderitch's short-term goal is to finish with a DPT degree, and find somewhere where she enjoys living and can put her degree to use.Â
Â
May the grind never stop.Â
