WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary used a late eight-point run to take the lead for good and held on to defeat Delaware, 67-62, Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
The teams were tied at 54-54 with six and a half minutes remaining, before jumpers by Ryan Allen and Gianmarco Arletti put the Blue Hens up four with 4:42 on the clock. However the Tribe scored the next eight points over a four-minute span before an Allen three-pointer cut the margin to 62-61 with 37 seconds to play.
William & Mary's Quinn Blair then knocked down a pair of free throws, and after Dylan Painter went one of two from the line with 15 seconds left to bring UD within 64-62, the Tribe hit three more foul shots to seal the win.
Painter led the Blue Hens with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while Allen and Arletti each added 13 points on the day. Ebby Asamoah scored 11 points for Delaware, all in the first half.
Blair posted 13 points and eight rebounds for the Tribe, with Connor Kochera adding 12 points and eight boards.
Delaware shot 51.7 percent during the opening half, as the Blue Hens led for a majority of the period. UD went up nine twice in the half, and still led by eight before a late three-pointer by the Tribe's Yuri Covington made it a 36-31 game at the break.
The Blue Hens extended the margin to eight at 44-36 early in the second half, but William & Mary eventually pulled even at 46-46 at the 12-minute mark and the game was tight the rest of the way.
