Women’s Soccer Ties Drexel 1-1
10/17/2021 3:32:00 PM | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Delaware women's soccer team took on Drexel this afternoon in Philadelphia, where the sun was hiding behind the clouds and the wind was making 60 degrees feel like 50 degrees at Vidas Field. Both teams gave it their all, and after 110 minutes of play, the game resulted in a 1-1 tie.
"Proud of the girls for how they competed today, especially for how they committed to the details after halftime to make sure that the second half was a far better product," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "You can look at the results all around the league today and it's easy to see how much parity we have in the CAA so going on the road and grinding out a result is a great step for our squad."
In a razzle, dazzle blink and you missed it play, Laura Fluegge scored the first goal of the match from 30 yards out when Sydni Wright passed it back for Fluegge to send the long strike past the goalkeeper and into the net for the 1-0 lead.
With a minute and a half left in regulation, Drexel's Annalena O'Reilly scored off her left foot to find an opening in the bottom left of the goal to tie the match at 1-All and send it to overtime.
Delaware's Lauren Krinsky was busy in the net. The senior made nine saves this afternoon. Delaware's record now stands at 4-8-2 overall and 1-2-2 in CAA play.
The Dragons (5-5-3, 1-2-2 CAA) outshot Delaware 22 to 9 and controlled the corner kicks 11 to 3. Goalkeeper Miyuki Schoyen had five saves for the Dragons.
The Blue Hens return to Newark on Thursday, Oct. 21, as they host Towson at 7 p.m. at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium, followed by a road match at UNCW on Sunday, Oct. 24.
