Twin Brothers: Cam and Matt Acchione
Twin brothers, Cam and Matt Acchione, from Barrie, Ontario, Canada, were all smiles when they talked about playing lacrosse in college, how they got started, and their family back home.
Matt, the older brother by 15 minutes, has changed his uniform number from 25 to 9 for his sophomore campaign. As a rookie, he appeared and started in all 13 games as a freshman and was the only freshman to do so. He compiled 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists and recorded at least one point in 12 of 13 outings. He also tallied one hat trick in his first season.
Cam was named to the 2021 CAA All-Rookie team. He played in all 13 games, while making 11 starts. He was one of four freshmen to appear in all 13 outings and led all Delaware rookies with 25 points on 22 goals and three assists, held a team-best shooting percentage (.489), and logged three hat tricks.

Q: Cam, what made you choose Delaware to pursue your college career?
A: Delaware has a very rich Canadian lacrosse alumni background. With all the Canadians that have come before me, they have left a path that I want to follow, including playing pro lacrosse. The facilities here are nice and the coaching staff is amazing.
Q: Matt, does having your brother here help with you being so far from family?
A: It definitely helps. We are really close with our mom and our little brother and we miss them every day. Having Cam here makes it feel like home and having some of the other Canadians on the team helps.
Q: Cam, what’s the best thing about playing college lacrosse with your twin brother?
A: Honestly just having someone to do it with you. Some days are really tough and having my brother here who has done it with me since we were five years old helps a lot.
Q: Matt, who’s the better lacrosse player?
A: This is a tough one. We each have a different style. Cam has more skill and a better goal scorer. I’m a little grittier, so it all works out well for us.
Q: Cam, how did you guys get started playing lacrosse?
A: When we were about 4-5 years old, box lacrosse was how we got started and our dad was our coach. In our hometown there is a lacrosse tournament in his memory. So building off his legacy, it’s a big deal in our family and something we always wanted to play growing up.
Q: Matt, what’s a lacrosse memory with your brother that stands out?
A: All of them. Coming here has been nothing but great. Attending high school at the Hill Academy, going to tournaments every weekend, and doing that day by day process, and playing minor lacrosse has all been awesome. Getting the opportunity to play here every day has been great.
