Delaware Picked First in CAA Preseason Poll; Four Blue Hens Selected To All-CAA Teams

RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware was picked to win the conference title as the Colonial Athletic Association announced its preseason poll and All-CAA teams during the league's media day on Thursday.
Delaware, which was picked first in the CAA Preseason Poll for the first time since joining the conference, received 296 points and 19 of 34 first place votes. The Blue Hens return their entire roster from last year's squad, and also add transfers Jameer Nelson, Jr. and Jyáre Davis.
Northeastern was picked second in the poll with 246 points and seven first place votes, while Drexel was selected third with 234 points and five first place votes. James Madison was picked fourth, followed by Hofstra, Elon, Charleston, Towson, UNCW, and William & Mary.
Dylan Painter, who was a first team All-CAA selection a year ago, was named to the Preseason All-CAA first team. Painter led the conference and ranked sixth in the nation with 11.5 rebounds per game, was second on the squad with a 13.5 scoring average, and recorded a league-high seven double-doubles.
Ryan Allen, a third team All-CAA pick last season, was named to the Preseason All-CAA second team. Allen led the Blue Hens by averaging 15.3 points in 2020-21, while also posting a team-best 30 three-pointers and 40 assists. He enters his fifth season ranked second in program history with 242 three-pointers made and ninth with 1,441 points scored.
Kevin Anderson, who ranked third on the team with a 12.4 scoring average last year, and Nelson, Jr., who transferred to UD from George Washington last winter, were selected Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
Delaware kicks off its highly-anticipated 2021-22 season on Tuesday, Nov. 9 with a road game at Davidson. The Blue Hens open their home on Wednesday, Nov. 17 against La Salle at 7 p.m.
