RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore back Julia Duffhuis of the Delaware field hockey team was named CAA Player of the Week Tuesday.
Duffhuis led the Blue Hens to a 2-0 week, defeating a top ten team and starting CAA play 1-0. She recorded 6 points on three goals, scoring in both matches over the weekend.
The Bergeijk, The Netherlands native had four points and scored two goals in Delaware's 4-3 double-overtime victory over No. 9 Saint Joseph's. Her much-needed goals helped the Blue Hens to avenge an overtime loss to the Hawks during the spring. Duffhuis added a goal, off a penalty to corner in Delaware conference-opening match against Towson as the Blue Hens downed the Tigers 5-0.
She leads Delaware with 17 points on eight goals and one assist this season. Duffhuis also is tied for the CAA lead in goals and ranks second in the league in points. This marks the sophomore's first weekly honor this season and second in her career after earning Rookie of the Week April 20.Â
Delaware returns to action Friday when they travel to Hempstead, N.Y., for a conference match-up at Hofstra at 3 p.m.
