Blue Hens Place Second in Patriot Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Delaware men's swimming and diving team completed the Patriot Invite with five top-three finishes on the third day and a second-place team finish with 771 points.
"Amazing job from our Blue Hens this weekend," said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. "They fought extremely hard under some very difficult circumstances."
Andrew Taylor started off the day placing third in the A Final of the 1650 Free with a time of 15:44.91.
Gavin Currie hit the wall first in the 200 Back in 1:46.67 in the A Final. DJ Fecthman took fifth with a time of 1:51.68.
In the 100 Free, Miguel Vasquez placed second in 45.47 with Ryan Polino joining him in the A Final with an eighth-place finish in 46.34. In the B Final, Luke Rautzhan placed 10th with a time of 45.73.
The Blue Hens swept third through sixth place in the 200 Breaststroke with Jack Hattery taking the top time for Delaware in the A Final with a time of 2:02.86. Evan Frick (2:03.02), Aaron Wilmore (2:03.71) and Jack Gibson (2:05.85) placed fourth through sixth respectively with Eric Veit placing eighth in 2:06.40. Tonislav Sabev placed ninth in the B Final of the 200 Breaststroke in 2:02.82.
In the 200 Fly, Simeon Sabev placed fourth in the Final with a time of 1:47.67, setting a school record. Andrew Taylor placed eighth, hitting the wall in 1:54.47. In the B Final, Justin Sabo placed ninth in 1:52.87
In the 400 Free Relay, Veit, Simeon Sabev, Vasquez and Polino took second 3:00.34, closing out the Patriot Invite.
"They pushed through three days of heavy competition and had one of the most successful invites as a team. This sets us up for the next training block leading toward CAA's and the back half of our season."
The Blue Hens now look to their mid-season break where they will travel to Florida for their winter training trip before returning to competition Jan. 8, 2022, in Philadelphia for a meet at Drexel.
