Field Hockey Game Preview: Fairfield

» No. 17 Delaware (12-8) earned its third straight CAA Tournament Championship after defeating James Madison, 3-1, in the title game Sunday. The Blue Hens earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Opening Round where they will host the Fairfield Stags (14-7).

» Delaware is 8-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 1-1 in play-in games. In the Blue Hens' last play-in game, Delaware fell to Kent State, 2-1, at Rullo Satium in 2014.

» Julia Duffhuis, the 2021 CAA Defensive Player of the Year and 2021 CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, leads the squad with 27 points on 13 goals and one assist. Her 1.35 points per game average ranks 45th in the NCAA.

» Femke Strien and Ashlyn Carr are currently tied for 19th in the NCAA in assists per game (0.55), each dishing out 11 assists so far this season. Strien ranks second on the team with 21 points (5 g, 11a) while Carr is fourth with 19 (4g, 11a).

» Kiki Oudshoorn scored two goals in the championship game against James Madison. Her 20 points (8g, 4 a) ranks third on the squad.

» Goalkeeper Lizzie Gaeble tied her season-high eight saves in the CAA title game, holding down the Delaware defense and preventing James Madison from scoring.

» Wednesday marks Delaware's third all-time meeting against Fairfield. The Blue Hens hold a 2-0 record against the Stags, last defeating them 4-1, September 4, 2015.
