NEWARK, Del. – Delaware jumped out to a big early lead and cruised from there as the Blue Hens won their fifth straight game with a 94-55 victory over Division III Moravian Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Dylan Painter recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Jameer Nelson, Jr. added 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting and dished out a season-high five assists. Ryan Allen, who became UD's career leader in three-pointers made, contributed 13 points while Gianmarco Arletti also scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.
After the teams were tied 8-8 in the early going, the Blue Hens took control by scoring 19 of the next 21 points to take a 27-10 advantage midway through the opening period.
A Logan Curtis triple extended the margin to 27 late in the half, while Ebby Asamoah beat the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer to give Delaware a 51-24 lead at intermission.
The Blue Hens then scored the first eight points of the second half and led comfortably the rest of the way, taking their largest lead at 93-51 on a Curtis three-pointer with 3:44 on the clock.
Delaware, which played without Andrew Carr (thumb) and Jyare Davis (chest tightness), shot 48.6 percent from the field and attempted a school-record 38 three-pointers.
Martin Ingelsby
"It's nice to finish this stretch with a win. I'm happy with how we shot the ball, hitting 10 threes in the first half. We want to be unselfish on offense; we have weapons and guys coming off the bench who can make shots. I'm glad we could get some other guys extended minutes, it's a long season and we're going to need them down the road."
