NEWARK, Del. – Dylan Painter and Andrew Carr each recorded impressive performances as the Delaware men's basketball team won its fourth straight game by defeating Lafayette, 68-58, Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Painter notched his third double-double of the season with game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Carr contributed 18 points and knocked down all three of his shots from behind the arc. Jameer Nelson, Jr. was the third Blue Hen in double figures with 11 points to go with six boards.
Delaware produced another solid defensive outing by holding the Leopards to just 40.4 percent shooting, while Lafayette attempted just two free throws on the night.
UD used a seven-point spurt late in the first half to take a 27-22 lead, and after the Leopards later closed within four, Painter completed a three-point play to give the Blue Hens a 33-26 cushion at the break.
Lafayette cut the margin to 37-34 five minutes into the second half before Delaware answered with a seven-point run to take a double digit advantage at 44-34 with 12:41 to play. The Blue Hens were up 11 a minute later but the Leopards countered with their own 7-0 spurt to close within 47-43 with eight and a half minutes remaining.
Delaware answered right back with seven consecutive points, taking a 54-43 lead on a Nelson, Jr. jumper at the 5:55 mark, before Lafayette scored eight in a row to make it a 54-51 contest.
But Carr drilled a clutch three-pointer before Nelson, Jr. beat the shot clock with a fallaway triple at the 1:37 mark to put the game away.

"Our group is battle-tested. We haven't always been clicking on the offensive end, but we've really guarded well lately. Our depth and versatility is really paying off. I can say enough about what our frontline was able to do tonight. Andrew's game is continuing to blossom, and we're a potent group when he's able to stretch the floor
