Seemans, Rogers and Putnicki each tally first career double-doubles
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware volleyball team took sets three and four after falling behind early Friday afternoon to Temple, but ultimately fell in a five-set decision (23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 8-15) at McGonigle Hall.
Three Blue Hens had double-doubles as redshirt junior Michaela Putnicki tallied 19 kills and 15 digs, freshman Savannah Seemans put away 15 kills with 24 digs, and classmate Lily Rogers had 59 assists and 17 digs.
Sophomore Lauryn Richardson was also productive with 13 kills and freshman Pearce Augier made her collegiate debut, going 10-1-15 to hit .600.
Delaware got out to in early lead in the first set, going on a 9-0 run with Rogers at the service line. Putnicki started the run with a kill and had the ninth straight Delaware point with another. But the Owls would close the set on a 14-6 run to take the first.
In the third, the Blue Hens jumped out to a 4-1 lead, this time not looking back as Augier made her presence felt with four kills in the frame. Delaware made a bit of a comeback in the fourth, closing the set out on an 8-4 run.
Ultimately, Temple was just too much, hitting .268 as a team and putting together 10.0 team blocks.
Freshman Amelia Painter also made her first appearance of her career and had three assists and seven digs. Junior Grace Underwood had seven kills and redshirt junior Katie Turner had a career-high 29 digs with five assists.
The Blue Hens now turn their attention to CAA North play as they host Towson March 5 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
