Hesson’s Goal Gives Blue Hens 1-0 Win Over Saint Joseph’s in Spring Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Josh Hesson scored the only goal of the match while Renan Thomazo posted a clean sheet as the Delaware men's soccer team opened its 2021 spring season with a 1-0 win over Saint Joseph's Wednesday night at Sweeney Field.

Hesson, a Pitt transfer making his Blue Hen debut, collected a loose ball in the box following a shot off the crossbar and fired a shot into the back of the net in the 24th minute for the lone goal of the night. Freshman Forster Ajago, also making his Delaware debut, was credited with an assist on the play.

The UD backfield would make the lead stand up, as Thomazo made three saves in the second half to keep the Hawks off the board.

Saint Joseph's held an 11-8 shot advantage, including eight shots in the second half, but could not find the back of the cage.
