NEWARK, Del. – Brandon Sengphachanh headed home a Ryan Mertz corner kick 1:50 into the second overtime period as the Delaware men's soccer team posted a thrilling 1-0 win over Northeastern in its home and CAA spring opener Sunday afternoon at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.

Mertz served in a corner kick from the left corner to the middle of the box, where Sengphachanh delivered a perfect header from 12 yards out into the top of the net to set off the Blue Hen celebration.

Delaware, which defeated Saint Joseph's by an identical 1-0 score on Wednesday, improved to 2-0 on the year. Northeastern fell to 0-3 on the spring.

The Blue Hens held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots, and took four of the five corners on the day. Renan Thomazo made three saves in the UD goal while posting his second consecutive clean sheet.
