Delaware Drops Doubleheader to Fordham

The Rams (11-4) erupted for 23 total runs against the Blue Hens (3-5) after securing a 15-2 victory in game one before claiming an 8-1 win in game two.
Game One
Fordham started red hot right out of the gate and put up three runs in the opening frame. The Rams continued to apply the pressure and scored once in each of the ensuing three innings before plating six runs on four hits in the fifth inning to grab a 12-0 lead.
The Blue Hens got on the board in the bottom half of the frame. Aidan Riley led things off with a single to center and later moved over to third following a two-out base knock by Vinny Vaccone. Riley eventually came around to score on a wild pitch before the inning ended.
In the seventh, Fordham tacked on three additional runs after three consecutive bases-loaded walks.
Delaware came up to bat in the eighth and with one out, Kyle Baker blasted a solo shot over the fence in right field for his first home run of the season.
That was all that the Blue Hens were able to muster off the Rams' pitching staff in the first game as Fordham closed out the contest without allowing another run.
Game Two
Fordham once again was first to get on the board and took advantage of a Blue Hens' miscue in the first inning of game two. The Rams had a pair of runners in scoring position when a passed ball allowed the runner on third to scamper home for the run.
Both starting pitchers began to settle into a groove until Jack Goan led off the fourth for Delaware with a no-doubter over the fence in left center field to even the score at 1-1. That was Goan's first blast of the season.
The Rams answered right back in the fifth after the second batter of the inning was hit by a pitch before the ball was sent over the fence in left for a two-run homer.
With a 3-1 lead, Fordham tacked on two more runs in the sixth and added three more in the eighth before securing the 8-1 road victory.
The Blue Hens will return to action when they head down to Towson, Md., for a four-game CAA series against Towson with the series opener slated for Friday at 3 p.m.
