Ludman tosses 8.0 scoreless in 12-0 victory
TOWSON, Md. – Junior Chris Ludman allowed three hits in 8.0 innings of work, striking out nine as the University of Delaware baseball team's bats came alive to top Towson, 12-0, Friday afternoon.
Graduate student Kyle Baker led the offensive attack with a 3-for-5 day, with two RBI and two runs.
The Blue Hens got off to a fast start, pushing across two runs in the second inning after a Towson error allowed a run and redshirt junior Jordan Hutchins drove in another.
Freshman Eric Ludman picked up his first career RBI in the fourth, bringing home senior Jack Goan and Baker followed up with a base hit to score Ludman to make it 4-0.
Junior Joseph Carpenter had the big hit in the sixth, a three-run home run to left field to break the game open and make it 10-0.
The Blue Hens weren't done as Goan doubled home Baker and Carpenter in the eighth before junior Winston Allen closed it out in the ninth.
Goan was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI while freshmen Joey Loynd and Aidan Riley also had a multi-hit day.
The 12-run margin was Delaware's largest margin of victory in a CAA contest since the 2017 season when it topped Charleston, 17-4, at home and largest CAA road win since a 19-0 victory at Hofstra in 2009.
The Blue Hens and Tigers continue the series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
