RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware senior forward Dylan Painter was named to the First Team All-CAA and CAA All-Defensive Team while senior guard Ryan Allen was selected Third Team All-CAA as the league announced its men's basketball all-conference honorees on Friday.
Painter has enjoyed an outstanding season for the Blue Hens as he leads the CAA and ranks fifth nationally with 11.6 rebounds per game. His seven double-doubles are also the most in the league, and he recorded double-doubles in six of the final seven regular season games of the year.
Painter has grabbed double digit rebounds in nine of UD's 14 games, including each of the final seven contests which is the longest streak by a Blue Hen since Jamelle Hagins in 2012. His 13.4 points per game are second on the team, while his 16 blocks rank fourth in the CAA and his 51.9 field goal percentage is the eighth highest in the league.
Painter is the sixth Blue Hen to earn first team All-CAA accolades along with Harding Nana (2004-05, 2005-06), Marc Egerson (2008-09), Devon Saddler (2012-13, 2013-14), Davon Usher (2013-14) and Nate Darling (2019-20). He is just the second Blue Hen to earn CAA All-Defensive Team honors, along with Hagins who was named to the team three straight years from 2011-13.
Allen, who like Painter started all 14 games this season, leads Delaware and ranks 10th in the CAA with a 15.4 scoring average and 2.8 assists per game. He ranks second in the league by playing 36.1 minutes per game, and posted three 20-point efforts including a season-high 26 points during the final regular season game vs. Elon. Allen currently ranks second in UD history with 241 three-pointers made and ninth with 1,426 points.
Matt Lewis of James Madison earned the CAA Player of the Year award, while the Dukes' Mark Byington was tabbed Coach of the Year. Connor Kochera of William & Mary was named CAA Rookie of the Year, while Tyson Walker of Northeastern was selected CAA Defensive Player of the Year.
Jahmyl Telfort of Northeastern won the Sixth Man of the Year award, while Tareq Coburn of Hofstra was the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award winner and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Delaware finished the regular season with a 7-7 record, and the Blue Hens will be the fifth seed in the CAA Tournament with a 5-4 league mark. UD will take on fourth-seeded Hofstra in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Va.
