Blue Hens Fall in Doubleheader at Northeastern
4/24/2021 11:18:00 PM | Baseball
BOSTON – The University of Delaware baseball team fell in a Saturday doubleheader to the hands of Northeastern.
Â
Game One
A pair of freshmen made big impacts in Saturday's opener as Aidan Kane put the Blue Hens in front early with a solo home run in the second inning, the first of his career, and Wyatt Nelson worked 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run and didn't surrender a hit until the fourth innings.
Â
Junior Joseph Carpenter stayed red-hot, going 2-for-4, along with senior Jack Goan.
Â
The Huskies were able to tie the game in the fourth inning and scraped across a run in both the sixth and the seventh to take the first game of the afternoon.
Â
Game Two
The Huskies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning and extended it to 7-0 after a four-run second inning.
Â
The Blue Hens were able to put up a crooked number in the third inning via a three-run blast by Goan. Goan had four RBI in the game.
Â
The hole would be too much as Northeastern would sweep the series.
Â
Freshman Joey Loynd was able to pick up a pair of hits in four trips and Carpenter was able to extend his hit streak to six games.
Â
Delaware stays on the road in the CAA, traveling to Hofstra next weekend for another four-game set with the Pride beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
