Seventh Inning Rally Lifts Hofstra over Blue Hens, 14-11

The Blue Hens opened the scoring in the top of the first when Jack Goan doubled home Kyle Baker, but Hofstra answered with five runs in the second capped by an Austin Gauthier grand slam.
However Delaware would dominate the next four and a half innings, scoring eight consecutive runs to go up 9-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Eric Ludman singled home a pair in the top of the third, and after Joseph Carpenter added an RBI single in the fourth, Aidan Kane blasted a three-run homer in the fifth to put the Blue Hens back in front. Baker contributed an RBI single later in the frame, and he doubled home Vinny Vaccone in the seventh to increase UD's lead to four.
But the Pride then scored nine times in the bottom of the seventh on just four hits to take the lead for good. Anthony D'Onofrio doubled home a pair to open the rally, and after five straight Hofstra batters walked with the bases loaded, Rob Weissheier delivered a two-run single to make it a 14-9 game.
The Blue Hens got two runs back in the eighth on run-scoring singles from Kane and Vaccone, but would not get closer.
Baker, who became the 38th player in program history to reach the 200-hit mark with his first inning double, finished 4 for 4 with two walks and two RBI. Kane was 3 for 4 with four RBI, while Goan and Ludman each added two hits on the day.
