Northeastern Tops Blue Hens in Series Opener

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball team lost an 8-1 decision Friday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium to division leading Northeastern.

The Huskies, unbeaten in conference play, jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first and scored at least one in each of the first five innings, including a three-run third.
Â
Delaware starter junior Chris Ludman settled in to work a scoreless final three innings, going 8.0 with three strikeouts before freshman Nate Rolka came in to strike out the side in the ninth.
Â
Freshman Jake Dunion picked up three hits on the afternoon and scored a run while classmate Eric Ludman had two doubles in three at-bats. Freshman Matthew Cooper collected his first career RBI.
Â
Graduate student Kyle Baker extended his hit streak to 12 games while junior Joseph Carpenter has hits in the last six.

The two teams continue the four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
