NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby has announced that Providence transfer and Delaware native Jyáre Davis has joined the Blue Hens program.
Davis, a 6-7 forward from Newark, starred at nearby Sanford School before attending Providence College this year. He did not appear in any games for the Friars during the 2020-21 season, and will have four years of eligibility with the Blue Hens.
Davis became the first player in Delaware history to earn four first team All-State honors, as he scored over 1,700 points during his high school career. He was named the 2020 MaxPreps Delaware Player of the Year after averaging 17.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists during his senior season, leading Sanford to a 20-3 record.
Davis was selected the 2019 Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019, when he averaged 17.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists while guiding the Warriors to the state title. He helped Sanford win the first of two consecutive state crowns in 2018 when he averaged 15.2 points, and he posted a 20.5 scoring average during his freshman campaign.
"We are very excited to welcome Jyáre back to the great state of Delaware and the Blue Hen basketball family. Jyáre is a high character young man who will be a great fit in our program and with our culture. He brings a talented skill set and a versatility to the forward position that will make our team better," Ingelsby said.
