Delaware Offense Explodes in 22-8 Win at Hofstra

Six Blue Hens posted multi-hit games, led by Jake Dunion who had six hits on the season entering the day before going 4 for 6 with five RBI and his first career homer.
Kyle Baker, Vinny Vaccone, Jack Goan and Jordan Hutchins each added three hits during the win, while Joey Loynd crushed a grand slam in the ninth inning. Goan and Aidan Kane also went deep during the contest, as Delaware scored in six of nine innings.
After the Pride took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Mitchell Balint drove home a run in the second with a sacrifice fly before Goan singled home the tying run in the third. The Blue Hens then scored eight times in the top of the fourth, as Hutchins delivered a two-run triple and Dunion followed with a two-run homer. After two more runs scored on a groundout and a wild pitch, Goan belted a two-run shot of his own to make it a 10-2 game.
Delaware tacked on two more runs in the fifth when Joseph Carpenter ripped an RBI single and Vaccone scored on a passed ball, before Hofstra got two back in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 12-4.
However Dunion doubled home a pair in the sixth, while Baker added an RBI single to give the Blue Hens a nine-run cushion. The Pride scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, before the Blue Hens blew the game open by putting up a seven spot in the top of the ninth.
Carpenter worked a bases loaded walk to ignite the rally, while Goan followed with a grand slam. Later in the frame Hutchins doubled home a run, before Dunion capped the UD scoring with an RBI single.
Delaware scored its most runs in a game since a 22-1 win over La Salle on Mar. 22, 2016, and its most runs in a CAA game since a 25-10 victory over Hofstra on May 8, 2010.
