Ryan Hurley Promoted to Associate Head Rowing Coach

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware rowing program and head coach Kevin Gruber have announced the promotion of Ryan Hurley to associate head coach moving into the 2021-22 season.

"For eight years, Ryan has guided the Blue Hen rowers to be the best they can be," Gruber said. "Ryan's enthusiasm and unique ability to teach and blend both skillfulness and power application has fueled our novice-to-varsity pipeline. He is a talented coach, we're grateful he's part of the team, and we're excited to see his continued impact in this new role."

Hurley has played an integral part in the Blue Hens' recent success. Delaware has earned a top-three finish at the CAA Championships in two of the last three seasons, placing third in 2021.

"I am truly honored by this promotion. In my 20 years of coaching, I have always put my focus and work into the good of the program and the student-athlete experience," Hurley said. "I am truly grateful for the confidence head coach Kevin Gruber has had in me to help build something special here."

Prior to his time in Newark, Hurley was the head coach at Liberty University of 2012-13. He competed collegiately at UMass, capping off his career with a gold medal in the 2001 Avaya Collegiate Championships in the men's heavyweight four.

Hurley has his Level III US Rowing Coaching Certification and is an AFAA certified personal trainer.
