Seton Hall Sneaks Past Delaware, 1-0

NEWARK, Del. – It was a warm day this afternoon at Suzanne and Stuart Grant Stadium, where the Delaware women's soccer team battled through the heat, but fell to visiting Seton Hall, 1-0.
"We're a team right now that is young and we really need a win to boost our confidence a little," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "When you're young and you're talented you can go into games and you can play really well, but until you start winning there's that feeling in the back of your mind that something's going to go wrong. That's what we're battling. We're a really talented team and this is the second game in a row where we've played a team off the field and loss the game."
The Blue Hens got six shots off in the first half, but Seton Hall's Grace Gordon was able to stop three from going in the net to keep the game at a 0-0 tie after the first 45 minutes.
In the 70th minute, Seton Hall's Sophie Liston crossed the ball to teammate Emma Ramsay who found a small corner in the left net to squeeze the ball past UD goalkeeper Lauren Krinsky.
Krinsky finished the day with a trio of saves, while the Blue Hens had 11 shots with six on goal. Delaware held the edge in corner kicks, 4 to 3. The loss drops Delaware's overall record to 1-3.
Gordon earned the win for the Pirates in the net as she made six saves. Seton Hall had seven shots in the game and four on goal as it improves to 3-0 on the season.
"I thought we were very good and created a ton of chances," said Barroqueiro. "I give them a ton of credit for fighting until the end of the game. At the last seconds we were getting shots on frame."
A pair of road games are up next for Delaware. The Blue Hens play at UMBC on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., and then travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Liberty on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
