Brothers: Tye and Reed Kurtz
Tye and Reed Kurtz, hail from Puslinch, Ontario (located an hour and a half west of Buffalo, N.Y.). They arrived in Newark at different times but with the same goal in mind - play college lacrosse at an elite level alongside each other. Tye and Reed have been able to accomplish that feat.
Both brothers are CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll honorees. Tye, a senior, is majoring in exercise sports science, while Reed, a junior, is studying business.
Tye, the older of the two, has played and started in every game since arriving on campus. A second team All-CAA selection in the spring, Tye registered 48 points on 26 goals and 22 assists last season.
Reed has appeared in 18 games as a Blue Hen with 12 starts during his first-two seasons on the lacrosse team. Last season he recorded 23 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Q: Reed, what made you choose Delaware to pursue your college career?
A: Firstly, when we came down and saw the campus it was awesome. Tye went here, which was great, and the guys on the team were super nice.
Q: Tye, how did you and your brother both end up at Delaware?
A: We decided when we started the recruiting process that we would go to the same school. Delaware gave us the best opportunity academically and athletically.
Q: Reed, does having your brother here help with you being so far from family?
A: Yes, definitely. It’s super nice having a sibling here, especially when our family is so far away in another country. It’s nice to have him here to lean on.
Q: Tye, have you two always played on the same team growing up?
A: Weirdly we never did, until he was 18 and I was 16. We were always one too many years apart. We were always around the same people and watched each other’s games. When I hit 16, we played in a league that had a five-year spread. So by the time I was two years in, he joined and we’ve played together for the last four years now.
Q: Reed, what’s the best thing about playing college lacrosse with your brother?
A: Its fun and we’re together all the time. I would also say that since we play different positions we get to go against each other in practice and we can give each other tips and help one another out.
Q: Tye, who’s the better lacrosse player?
A: Definitely him. You ask anyone on our team. Any 1v1 matchup goes to him. He’s definitely the more talented one.
