Etxezarreta, Blue Hens Finish Second at Season-Opening Nittany Lion Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Oihana Etxezarreta tied for second place among individuals while Delaware placed second in the team standings as the Blue Hen women's golf team opened its 2021 fall season in impressive fashion this weekend at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
After posting rounds of 282 and 294 on Saturday, the Blue Hens carded a 287 on Sunday to finish in second place out of 14 teams. Delaware's 863 score is the lowest three-round total in program history, breaking the previous record of 270 at the 2019 Edisto Island Invitational.
Tournament host Penn State captured the team title with an 851 score, finishing eight shots ahead of the Blue Hens.
Etxezarreta carded a three under par 69 during Sunday's final round on the par 72, 6,115-yard PSU White Course, tying for second place with a seven under par 65-75-69-209. Etxezarreta, who recorded four birdies and an eagle on the sixth hole, tied for the second lowest three-round score in UD history.
Mathilde Delavallade of Penn State finished at 10 under par to earn medalist honors, while Etxezarreta and Princeton's Victoria Liu tied for second place three shots back.
Blue Hen freshman Lilia Henkel fired a 70 during her final round of the weekend, tying for seventh place with a two under par 73-71-70-214. Henkel recorded three birdies and made just one bogey during Sunday's round. Fellow rookie Alisa Khokhlova tied for 15th place at the tournament with a four over par 73-71-76-220.
Christina Carroll tied for 30th place with a six over par 71-77-74-222, Anna Kittelson tied for 48th place with an 11 over par 73-77-77-227, and Lexi Dart tied for 53rd place with a 12 over par 76-78-74-228.
Delaware returns to action on Sept. 12-14 when the Blue Hens compete in the Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
