Women’s Soccer Preview: Monmouth and Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's soccer team has three matches left in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Blue Hens travel to Monmouth on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m., followed by a trip to Northeastern on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.

What You Need to Know:

The Blue Hens are 2-8-5 overall and 1-3-2 in CAA competition.
Monmouth leads the all-time series, 7-1. Delaware last defeated Monmouth, 3-2, on Aug. 22, 2014 in West Long Branch.
Delaware leads the all-time series versus Monmouth, 12-7-4. The Blue Hens won the last outing, 2-1, on Sept. 26, 2021 in Newark.
After leading UD in goals scored in 2021, Sara D'Appolonia has six goals and one assist on her resume in 2022. She's tied for sixth in the CAA in goals scored. Izzy Lane leads the team with four assists, while Mia Reed has 45 saves. Odaliana Gomez has started the last three matches at the goalkeeper spot for UD and has tallied 22 saves with a 1-1-2 record.

The Opponent

Monmouth (10-2-2, 3-1-2 CAA) won as many as five consecutive games this season. The Hawks are coming off a 2-2 tie versus William & Mary. Monmouth is led by Summer Reimet who has five goals and three assists for 13 points. Cassie Coster has started all 14 matches for the Hawks with 45 saves under her belt.
Northeastern (7-4-3, 4-1-1 CAA) is led by Vivian Akyirem who has eight goals for 16 points. Holland Stam has 80 saves in 14 starts. The Hawks are on a four-match win streak with a 3-1-2 home record.
