Women’s Soccer Drops 3-1 Road Match at Monmouth
10/13/2022 7:49:00 PM | Women's Soccer
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Delaware women's soccer team battled strong rain and winds as they fell on the road to Monmouth, 3-1, in West Long Branch, NJ.
"Playing through those monsoon conditions in the first half was tough, we started poorly and paid the price," head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "I'm very proud of the second-half response as I thought it became a pretty one-sided affair in that second stanza. We have a long trip ahead of us but will get back to it on Sunday."
The Hawks scored in the 30th minute and again in the 39th minute to take a 2-0 edge at the half. Monmouth added its third goal of the game in the 52nd minute to extend its lead to 3-0.
Lea Panagiotidis got the Blue Hens on the scoreboard after a double assist from Izzy Lane and Lauren Elwell in the 54th minute.
Goalkeeper Odaliana Gomez made five saves.
Delaware falls to 2-9-5 and 1-4-2 in CAA play.
Monmouth led in shots (17-8) and corner kicks (6-2). The Hawks improved to 11-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in league play.
The Blue Hens continue road play at Northeastern (Oct. 16). Delaware will then return to Grant Stadium to host Drexel on Senior Day (Oct. 23).
