Blue Hens Tie Towson, 1-1
10/2/2022 3:06:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEWARK, Del. - It was a cold and rainy day at Stuart and Grant Stadium, as the Delaware Blue Hens tied visiting Towson 1-1 on Sunday afternoon.
"Very proud of our kids for another gritty CAA battle against one of the best attacking teams in the conference," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "I thought we did well to keep the ball and play the game on our terms. I'm really excited to get back out to Grant on Thursday night and keep the momentum going."
With winds up to 18 miles per hour, the Tigers scored in the 34th minute when Sydney Cradle scored from 30 yards out to send the ball over Odaliana Gomez' head and into the top of the net.
The Blue Hens responded in the 46th minute when Katie Hackley served up a nice assist that landed right in front of an open Raychel Speicher who sailed the ball into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
Delaware controlled the ball the majority of the match. The Blue Hens pushed the ball having six shots in the second half.
Gomez finished with two saves in her second start of the season.
Delaware (2-7-4, 1-2-1 CAA) led Towson in shots, 10-5. Towson (8-2-3, 1-1-2 CAA) held the edge in corner kicks, 5-4.
The Blue Hens remain at home as they welcome Stony Brook on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Hofstra on Sunday at 1 p.m.
