Blue Hens Tie Hofstra, 0-0
10/9/2022 4:05:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEWARK, Del. - It was a cool and sunny day at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium for Youth Day. The Blue Hens took on visiting Hofstra, where they battled the Pride to a 0-0 tie.
Â
With the UDairy ice cream truck on site, the day allowed fans to have a cold treat, interact with the animals at the petting zoo, and watch soccer.
Â
"I'm proud of the team for competing after such a hard match on Thursday night," said Barroqueiro. "They were really good today, and Simon (Riddiough) is one of the best coaches in the league and that team is relentless. Today we got a result for the first time over Hofstra in a few years. Now we move on to our upcoming road trip."
Â
Katie Hackley had two of Delaware's three shots in the first half, while both teams had two corner kicks each.Â
Â
In the second half, the Pride managed to continue to pressure the Blue Hen defense as they recorded 11 shots in the half. The Blue Hens registered six shots in the half with three on goal.
Â
Odaliana Gomez collected four saves in the first half to finish with a career-high eight on the day.Â
Â
"It's amazing when you look at freshman goalkeeper and you tell her one of your first few games in your college career will be against a perennial Top 25 team in the country like Hofstra and we've never gotten a result against them," said Barroqueiro. "Then, she goes in and pitches a shutout."Â
Â
Delaware (2-8-5, 1-3-2 CAA) earned it's second tie in three matches.
Â
Hofstra (6-6-3, 1-3-2 CAA), also with their second tie in league play, led in shots (15-7) and corner kicks (4-3).
Â
The Blue Hens hit the road for matches at Monmouth (Oct. 13) and Northeastern (Oct. 16). Delaware will return to Grant Stadium to host Drexel on Senior Day (Oct. 23).
