Men's Swimming And Diving Sits In First Place After Day One Of Bison Invitational

LEWISBURG, Penn. -Â The University of Delaware men's swimming and diving program currently is in first place after day one of three of the Bison Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University. The Blue Hens finished the first day of competition with 392 points, ahead of Bucknell (383.50), Davidson (266.50), Fordham (216), Rider (208.50), NJIT (177), La Salle (160.50), and Bloomsburg (158).Â
Delaware set program records in two events during day one. Matvei Namakonov set a new freshman program record in the 50 free with a time of 20.31 and finished in fourth place, while the 400 medley relay team of Gavin Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Miguel Vasquez set a new program record with a time of 3:11.63 and finished in first place.Â
Five Blue Hens qualified in the 200 IM, with Toni Sabev leading the way with a second place finish in the finals with a time of 1:49.00. Jack Hattery finished in fifth place with a time of 1:50.26, while Evan Frick was 13th (1:53.18), Jack Zapp was 21st (1:54.86), and Jack Gibson was 23rd (1:55.40).Â
Along with Namakonov in the 50 free, Luke Rautzhan (20.74, 11th), Ryan Polino (21.05, 14th), Miguel Vasquez (21.03, 19th), and Addison Collins (21.17 22nd) all followed during the finals.Â
In the 500 free, Currie (4:28.49) finished in second place to lead five qualifiers for the Blue Hens. Andrew Taylor placed in sixth (4:32.23), Jacob Replogle finished in eighth (4:37.55), Dylan Smolders in 11th (4:34.85), and Kevin Lewke in 21st (4:39.92).Â
The 200 freestyle relay team of Vasquez, Ryan Polino, Rautzhan, and Namakonov finished in third place with a time of 1:20.96.Â
During the 3-meter diving, Kevin Siegfried came in third place with a score of 283.30, while Philip Townsend placed sixth with a score of 264.35.Â
Day two of the Bison Invitational is set to begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with finals scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
