Women's Basketball Game Preview: Fresno State & Illinois

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team packed their bags and headed south for a two-game stretch at "the World's Most Famous Beach" from Nov. 25-26. The Blue Hens will face Fresno State on Friday (Nov. 25) at 11 a.m. and then play against Illinois on Saturday (Nov. 26) at 3:30 p.m. as part of the 2022 Daytona Beach Invitational.

What You Need to Know:
- This will be the first time in program history Delaware will be facing both Fresno State and Illinois.
- The last time Delaware hit the hardwood was last Friday, Nov. 18 when they traveled to Burlington, Vt. to face Vermont. The Blue Hens came away with the 58-53 victory, headlined by Kharis Idom and Klarke Sconiers pouring in 13 points apiece. Needing just two points to join the prestigious 1,000 point club, Jewel Smalls finished with three points and pulled down a season-best 11 rebounds in the road win.
- Fresno State's showdown with UC Merced on Tuesday, Nov. 22 was highlighted by a stellar performance from Yanina Todorova, who scored a game-high 17 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting.
- Illinois, who secured a 5-0 start to the season for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign, will face Charlotte on Friday before their matchup with the Blue Hens on Saturday. The last time the Fighting Illini was out was against Oakland on Monday, Nov. 21, where they captured a 84-55 home victory over the Golden Grizzlies. Illinois was led by a trio of double-digit scorers in Makira Cook, Jayla Oden, Adalia McKenzie and Jada Peebles, who combined to score 56 of the team's 84 points.
- Among the national leaders as of Nov. 21, Delaware as a team ranks 14th in blocks per game (6.2), with Sconiers being 23rd among Division I players with 10 total and 22nd in blocks per game (2.50). The Blue Hens as a unit ranks 30th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (33.1).
- Delaware was one of three CAA schools that were recognized on Nov. 22 on the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Blue Hens received 30 votes.
