Women’s Tennis Adds Three to Program

NEWARK, Del.– Delaware women's tennis will welcome Slade Coetzee, Paulina Jurkowska, and Alexandra Staiculescu to the program for the fall of 2023, after the three signed national letters of intent (NLI). Staiculescu and Coetzee will play the spring at their current institutions before joining the Blue Hens as graduate transfers.
Slade Coetzee - Miami Beach, Fla. / College of Charleston
Coetzee remains in the CAA at Delaware after four years at the College of Charleston… Competed in ITA Carolina Regionals in October… Three-time CAA Player of the Week in 2021-22… Finished with an 18-4 singles record… Won 18 of 19 singles matches to begin her junior season… Named to CAA All-Academic Team… As a sophomore, went 11-7 in singles… major is Psychology.
Paulina Jurkowska - Białystok, Poland / Bromsgrove School (England)
Jurkowska joins the Blue Hens as a member of the class of 2027… Winner of ITF J5 Doubles… Competed in several national tournaments, including U18 Road to Wimbledon three times… Has a younger sister, Aurelia… Daughter of Beata and Marek.
Alexandra Staiculescu - Bucharest, Romania / Indiana
Staiculescu joins the Blue Hens as a graduate transfer after four years at the University of Indiana… Made it to the Round of 32 at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in October… In 2021-22, Staiculescu was 14-13 in singles play during the season… accrued four wins in Big Ten play…played 18 dual matches at No. 3 doubles with a 10-8 record…10 wins in doubles for the season… Led the Hoosiers with eight singles wins during her sophomore season of 2020-21… also won six doubles matches… She finished the 2019-20 season second on the team in singles wins with a 13-11 overall record…7-6 in dual match singles, playing at the No. 3 singles positions as a freshman… Before Indiana, she was a part of two Romanian U18 National Team Championships… Major is Biochemistry.
