CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Five home games, four road games and a Thanksgiving Trip to Daytona Beach, Fla. tipped off the Colonial Athletic Association defending champions 2022-23 non-conference slate. The University of Delaware women's basketball team put together a strong showing, finishing with a 7-4 record.
We couldn't be more excited about how competitive our 2022-23 non-conference schedule is. The schedule was created to challenge us and intentionally play different styles and high-level competition. This will prepare us for the newly structured and challenging conference play and help us build a strong resume for the postseason.Sarah Jenkins (said on Sept. 12, 2022)
The Blue & Gold opened the season on the road in Farmville, Va. against Longwood where it was a battle of reigning conference tournament champions. Delaware captured the dominating 20-point victory, 82-62 over the Lancers, giving first-year head coach Sarah Jenkins her first win at the helm.

The Blue Hens took the show on the road to the “Worlds Famous Beach” during the Thanksgiving break. Delaware went 1-1 at the 2022 Daytona Beach Invitational, highlighted by a B1G win over Illinois on the last day of the two-day tournament. The FIGHTIN' Blue Hens defeated Goliath by capturing the 83-80 victory to snap the Fighting Illini six-game winning streak. This win marks the third time in three seasons that Delaware walked away with a win over a Power 5 school. The last time Delaware reached this feat was during the 2020-21 season, when the Blue Hens claimed the 87-74 win over Clemson on Mar. 20 as part of the WNIT run.
Against Illinois, Makayla Pippin finished with career-bests of 18 points (8-11 FT) and 18 rebounds to lead the way in Delaware's win. The Indianapolis, Ind. native 18-rebound performance is the most by a CAA player this season and the most by a UD player since Jasmine Dickey had 18 in the 2022 CAA Conference Championship Game on March 13. Klarke Sconiers added her name to the mix with 18 points (7-11 FG) while Kharis Idom, Tara Cousins (four assists, two steals) and Nakiyah Mays-Prince poured in 12, 11 and 11 points, respectively. The Blue Hens had five different players score at least 10 points for the first time since Jan. 4, 2021, an 86-59 road victory over Northeastern.

Delaware fell in back-to-back games to open the December slate but looked to bounce back immediately. The Blue Hens snapped the skid on the road at Lehigh. Sconiers shined through and through against the Mountain Hawks with a career-best 29 points on 10-12 efficient shooting from the field and pulled down 11 rebounds to post her first double-double on the season.
