2/12/2022 9:16:00 PM | Men's Basketball
NEWARK, Del. – Hofstra put five players in double figures and led for virtually the entire game as the Pride posted an 80-66 victory over Delaware Saturday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Aaron Estrada paced Hofstra with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Darlinstone Dubar added 14 points and Jalen Ray contributed 14 on the night. The Pride enjoyed a 43-28 rebounding edge and held a 46-22 points in the pant advantage.
Jyare Davis reached double figures for the fourth straight game with a team-high 16 points for the Blue Hens, who shot just 39.6 percent from the field. Ryan Allen added 12 points and moved into third place on UD's career scoring list, while Kevin Anderson and Ebby Asamoah chipped in 10 apiece.
Hofstra jumped out to a double digit lead at 27-17 when Omar Silverio drained a three-pointer with seven minutes on the first half clock, and the Pride went back up 10 on a Caleb Burgess layup in the final minute. However Allen answered with a pair of three-pointers, including one just before the final buzzer, to bring the Blue Hens within 39-35 at the half.
The Pride extended the lead back to double figures two and a half minutes into the second half, while an eight-point spurt put Hofstra in front 62-47 with 13:35 remaining.
The lead grew to 16 three minutes later, but the Blue Hens answered with an 11-2 run capped by an Asamoah triple that made it a 67-60 game at the 8:15 mark.
However following a timeout, the Pride quickly scored the next seven points to go back up 14 and was not threatened the rest of the way.
Martin Ingelsby
"Hofstra puts a lot of pressure of you defensively with their ability to make shots one-on-one. I thought we played pretty good defense at times, but their offense was better. We battled in the second half to give us a chance, but could never make it a one- or two-possession game. Our guys wanted it so bad, but we couldn't get it done."
