Men's Tennis Falls to Navy 6-1

WILMINGTON, Del. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team fell by a 6-1 score to Navy on Friday afternoon in a dual match played at the Delcastle Tennis Center. With the setback, the Blue Hens slip to 2-3 on the season, while the Midshipmen move to 8-3.

"This was a tough loss today but kudos to Coach Garner and his Navy team," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "We had our chances at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point but Navy came up with some big first serves. In singles, we battled well on most of the courts but we couldn't finish on the big points. Pascal played great at No. 3 singles and controlled the match for the majority of the time. We will learn from this match and bounce back on Sunday when we play Penn State."

The two squads split the first two doubles matches at Pierce Gilheany and Emiliano Gonzalez Balmaceda came away with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 position. The pairing of Alexandre Gluck and Guilherme Valdoleiros could not seal the point at No. 3 as Navy won by a 7-6 (3) score.

In singles, Pascal Wagemaker was the only Blue Hen to come away with a victory, winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. James Wilkinson took the first set at No. 1, but ultimately fell 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

The Blue & Gold will be back on the court on Sunday when the squad travels to State College, Pa. for a dual match against Penn State. The match is set to start at 12 p.m.
