NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team has earned its first appearance in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women's team rankings since the 2013 season. In the latest set of top-75 programs in the country, the Blue Hens check in at No. 63.
"This is a nice milestone for the program and I'm super excited for our players as this is a nice testament to their hard work and dedication so far this season," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "We are continuing to chip away each week with some of our process goals and, slowly but surely, we are getting closer to our outcome goals. We still have a lot of unfinished work to do and it's exciting we are receiving national exposure for some of our efforts these past few weeks."
The Blue Hens are currently 6-1 in dual matches during the 2021-22 season, and have won all five matches to start the spring campaign. In UD's current streak, the Blue & Gold has allowed its opponents to score just four points while sweeping both Navy and LIU by 7-0 scores.
Delaware has received strong singles play as four individuals – Isabella Montana, Samantha Svendsen, Dominika Sujova and Alina Vasilenko – are a combined 19-0 across the No. 2-6 singles positions. Montana was named the CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday after going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles action in wins over Rutgers and LIU last week.
The UD women will head back out on the road this weekend, traveling to Richmond, Virginia for a 1 p.m. match at No. 52 VCU.
