Blue Hens Sweep CAA Weekly and Monthly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. - Delaware men's swimming and diving swept CAA weekly and monthly honors announced by the conference office Tuesday. Tonislav Sabev earned Swimmer of the Week honors and and Rookie Swimmer of the Month honors, while Philip Townsend earned Diver of the Week honors and Rookie Diver of the Month honors.Â

A native of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, Sabev posted a time of 53.78 in the 100 breast to set a new program freshman record and record the second-fastest time in program history at the Last Chance Meet. He also placed second and set a new personal best with a time of 20.78 in the 50 free and was a member of the Blue Hens' 200 medley relay team that broke the pool record with a time of 1:29.72.
In addition to his record-setting performances in the 100 breast, 50 free and 200 medley relay at the Last Chance Meet, Sabev recorded three first-place finishes against West Chester in the 100 breast, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. He was second in the 100 breast in a meet against Towson. His strong performances against West Chester, Towson and at the Last Chance Meet earned him CAA Rookie Swimmer of the Month honors.Â

A Townsend, Del., native, Townsend set personal bests on both boards during the Last Chance Meet. The freshman took first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 292.80 and was second in the 3-meter competition with a score of 264.83. Townsend also recorded second-place efforts on both boards at Towson with 264.90 on the 3-meter and 249.83 on the 1-meter, earning monthly honors.
The Blue Hens now look toward the 2022 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Christiansburg, Va., from Feb. 16-19.Â
