WILMINGTON, Del. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team opened up its three-match weekend with a convincing 6-1 victory over CAA-foe Hofstra on Friday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center. With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 4-6 on the season and 1-0 in CAA play.

"Today was a fun day for the program and it's always exciting when both teams are competing at the same time," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "Our doubles looked fantastic today with both teams and we immediately carried that momentum to our singles. It was a total team effort today from one through six and we will continue using this confidence as we prepare for Yale and Georgetown this weekend."

The Blue Hens jumped on the Pride quickly, winning the first two doubles matches to take the opening point. James Wilkinson and Pierce Gilheany claimed a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles while Alexandre Gluck and Liam Hedlund won 6-2 at No. 2. The duo of Guilherme Valdoleiros and Pascale Wagemaker were also winning at No. 3, but abandoned the match with the doubles point clinched.

Delaware continued that momentum into singles play, winning four of the six matches in straight sets. Wagemaker won a 7-6, 6-4 decision at No. 2, while Luis Molina took down his opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Gluck (7-6, 6-2) and Hedlund (6-4, 6-0) also won without dropping a set. At No. 1, Wilkinson dropped the first set but came back for the 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win.

The Blue & Gold will continue its busy weekend with a 1 p.m. match at Yale on Saturday before returning home to take on Georgetown at 3 p.m. on Sunday at DuPont Country Club.
