NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Yale on Saturday afternoon in the squad's lone road contest of UD's three-match weekend. With the setback, the Blue Hens fall to 4-7 on the season.
"That was a tough match today but kudos to Yale as they brought it," said Delaware Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "In doubles, we competed well but they outplayed us at the net and coming forward. In singles, we battled them well and this match was definitely coming down to the end. Congrats to Pascal for having a nice win at No. 2 singles. We will learn from this as we get ready for Georgetown tomorrow."
Yale claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Guilherme Valdoleiros and Pascal Wagemaker were winning 4-3 at the No. 3 position, but the match was abandoned with the point decided.
Wagemaker picked up Delaware's only win in singles, coming away with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2. James Wilkinson also went three sets with his opponent at No. 1, but the match went unfinished.
The Blue Hens will be right back on the court on Sunday afternoon when they return home to host Georgetown. The match is set to start at 3 p.m. and will be played at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington.
