Delaware Cruises to a Pair of Sunday Sweeps

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team dropped just two sets on Sunday as the Blue & Gold won a pair of matches at the Delaware Tennis Courts. The Blue Hens defeated both St. Francis Brooklyn and Goldey-Beacom by 7-0 scores to improve to 12-3 on the season.
"It's great to be playing outside again and I am proud of my players for being tough in the windy conditions," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "We competed well throughout the day and this is a good confidence booster for us as we prepare for our South Carolina matches."
Delaware 7, St. Francis Brooklyn 0
The Blue Hens dropped just three points in doubles as they took all three matches. Isabella Montana and Julieta Honrubia took a quick 6-0 decision at the No. 3 position before Alina Vasilenko and Dominika Sujova defeated their opponents 6-1 at No. 1 to secure the point. Eliza Askarova and Samantha Svendsen finished things off with a 6-2 victory at No. 2.
Honrubia kept things rolling at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Vasilenko and Askarova, playing at No. 2 and No. 1, respectively, clinched the team wins as they each posted 6-1, 6-1 victories.
Maria Constantinou breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 while Montana was leading 6-3, 3-1 when her opponent retired. Viva Laas secured the shutout with a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 victory at No. 6.

The Blue Hens picked up right where they left off, cruising to their sixth shutout of the season as they again just dropped one set in the match.
Montana and Honrubia won by a 6-0 score for the second time on the day to open doubles play. Vasilenko and Sujova again clinched the point for UD with a 6-2 win at No. 2 before Askarova and Svendsen also won their match with a 6-2 score.
Sujova got singles action started with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 position, while Honrubia continued her strong play with her second 6-0, 6-0 victory of the day. Montana sealed the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Making her debut at the No. 1 position, Vasilenko had no problems with a 6-0, 6-3 win and Constantinou easily beat her opponent by a 6-1, 6-4 score at No. 5. Laas clinched the sweep again as her opponent retired in the second set.
The Blue Hens will next travel to South Carolina for a trio of matches during spring break. Delaware will play at South Carolina State on Sunday, March 27 before taking on CAA foe Charleston on March 29 and Charleston Southern on March 31.
