Blue Hens Open Spring Break Trip with 5-2 Win at South Carolina State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip with a strong 5-2 victory over South Carolina State on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Blue Hens improved to 13-3 on the season.
"It was a great battle today for the program playing in tough windy conditions, and I am so proud of our players for staying mentally tough throughout the day," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "This was a great first win for us on our spring break trip and we will surely use this confidence as we prepare for the College of Charleston on Tuesday."
The Blue Hens got off to a quick start, sweeping the doubles point as they registered 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Alina Vasilenko and Dominika Sujova remained undefeated as a duo with their victory, while Isabella Montana and Julieta Honrubia clinched the point with a sweep of their own. Eliza Askarova and Samantha Svendsen added a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Askarova kept things going with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, before Vasilenko put UD in the driver's seat with a 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 win at No. 2.
The Bulldogs got a point with a win at No. 3 singles, but Maria Constantinou clinched Delaware's victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6. Montana added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Delaware will remain in South Carolina as the Blue Hens will play at Charleston on Tuesday in a CAA matchup. First serve against the Cougars is set for 2 p.m.
